Child Safety & Policies
I am aware of the various safety and insurance procedures required as a tour operator from my time working in travel, as a surf guide, snowboard coach, and travel agent. Since becoming a school teacher, I have completed various detailed and strict child safety courses to ensure child wellbeing is maximised not only in school but within the wider community.
This is something we take seriously. It is important to us that we have the trust of both our tour participants and their parents. I use the same guidelines and procedures that I do when working at school as a classroom teacher. These include the standards of the schools I work at, the standards of the Queensland College of Teachers, and the standards of the Queensland Government, British Columbia Teachers Association, and the rigorous standards of the Canadian Government when working with children.
In addition to these standards, I have some non-negotiable standards of my own, developed over a decade, to ensure the well-being of the kids I work with and my own personal liability. Some of these include never being alone in a room with a child, limiting digital contact with children to academic or safety communication, only capturing media during activities and for the purpose of sharing with parents, and only posting children on social media when we have parental approval, along with many more.
There is a responsibility to report any concerning behaviour or comments to parents, as well as to take steps to ensure immediate safety and well-being.
This is something I am passionate about and welcome any conversation or further discussion via any of our contact channels. I encourage you to call me and discuss any issues you may have.
